International Training. Ongoing projects

ICAB INTERNATIONAL TRAINING

Young European Lawyers Contest

ICAB, together with the Academy of European Law (ERA), forms a consortium in the "Young Lawyers Contest" (YLC) project.

Aim of the competition

The competition will bring together young and newly qualified lawyers to highlight the importance of European law for their future legal practice.

In teams made up of contestants from different countries across Europe, they will have the challenge of applying their knowledge of European law in practical role-playing scenarios. Under the watchful eye of a jury made up of European law professionals, they will learn to work with colleagues from other legal cultures to build cases in areas as diverse as fundamental rights and the rule of law, access to justice, economic law, border cooperation in civil and commercial matters, and criminal justice. Contestants will be judged both on their knowledge of European law and on their advocacy skills in drafting written arguments, conducting negotiations and testifying in front of a judge.

Awards/Recognition

All candidates, for the mere fact of participating in the Competition, will be given a certificate of attendance in which the number of hours of training will be mentioned.

Format

The competition will consist of 3 semi-finals and a final.

The top two teams from each semi-final will participate in the three-day final held at the ERA facilities in Trier (Germany) and the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg. In this case, training on "how to litigate before the Court of Justice" and "negotiation exercises" will be included in the certificate. The two finalist teams will compete in front of a jury made up of high-profile representatives of legal practice and judges of the European Court of Justice. There is a economic prize for the final winners.

Expenses

The participation of young lawyers appointed by the Bar Associations is free, including the costs of documentation, lunch, coffee breaks and dinner. All entrants selected to enter the competition will receive a significant contribution towards their travel costs upon receipt of original invoices, tickets and receipts. To calculate: https://era-comm.eu/go/calculator (It is determined by the EU unit cost: calculation guidelines).

For the semi-finals, accommodation will be reserved for 1 night and subsidized by the ERA. For the final, accommodation for 3 nights will be funded and will also be booked and paid for by the ERA.

Both in the ICAB news section and on our social networks, the opening of the new periods is published, in order to receive nominations.

You will find more information in the attached information brochure (Brochure_YLC).
