The President, Jesús M. Sánchez García
Jesús M. Sánchez García is the President of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) since 18th January 2022. Previously, he was vice-president and secretary of the Council of the Corporation.
He has a Law Degree from the University of Barcelona (1982) and a Master's Degree in Research in Legal Sciences from the Abat Oliba-CEU University (2016). Since 1983 he has been a member of the ICAB.
Closely linked to the Bar Association life, he has been part of several work Committees at an institutional level, participating in the preparation of legislative proposals such as the Catalan Law 4/2016, on the protection of the right to housing of people at risk of residential exclusion or Spanish Law 5/2018, modifying the LECivil in relation to the illegal occupation of homes. He has also chaired the Procedural Law Section of the ICAB and the Regulation Committee.
He has also chaired the Procedural Law Section of the ICAB and the Regulatory Committee. Since 2021 he has been co-director of the Institut I+Dret (Institute for Legal Research and Innovation, which aims at research and legal innovation in all areas of law).
He has been a professor at the Legal Practice School and several master's degrees in Procedural Law at the ICAB, as well as a professor of litigation courses and the Master's Degree for Access to the Legal Profession at the Abat Oliba University and the Open University of Catalonia. Likewise, he has participated as a speaker in innumerable conferences organized by Professional Associations and Faculties of Law.
He is the author of the monograph "La res judicata in the field of consumers and the retroactive effects of the floor clause declared abusive" and co-director of the work "Cláusula rebus sic stantibus". He has also collaborated in several collective works, as well as in the publication of an extensive repertoire of doctrinal articles in specialized legal journals, mainly on procedural law and consumer law.
In addition, he has numerous distinctions in the field of Justice, such as the Medal of the Barcelona Bar Association; the Merit Medal in the service of the Spanish Lawyer awarded by the General Council of the Spanish Bar; the “Narcís de Sant Dioní” award from the Girona Bar Association; the Medal of Honor for exceptional services to Justice, awarded by the Department of Justice of the Generalitat de Catalunya; the Distinguished Cross of 2nd class of the Order of Saint Raymond of Peñafort and the "Creu de l'Advocacia Catalana", awarded by the Consell de l'Advocacia Catalana (CICAC).
